Opposition Leader touring drought stricken St. Elizabeth

Opposition Leader Andrew Holness is now touring sections of  St Elizabeth affected by the protracted dry spell.

Mr. Holness will visit Southern St Elizabeth including Tryall, Dalton, Flagaman, Hopewell and Whitehall.

He’s accompanied by Spokesman on Water Dr Horace Chang; Desmond McKenzie, Spokesperson on Local Government, as well as Spokesperson on Agriculture, JC Hutchinson.

St. Elizabeth, widely regarded as the "bread basket parish of Jamaica," has not only been directly affected by the protracted drought, but also by an inordinate number of bush fires, many of them started by farmers using the so-called "slash and burn" method to prepare their lands for cultivation. The fires, in turn, have destroyed large acres of crops, rendering the food production crisis even worse.
