OUR launches probe into Gotel allegations

An internal probe has been launched at the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) into allegations of impropriety in the issuing of a telecommunications license.

There have been claims in the media of bribes being paid to OUR personnel for the granting of a cellular license to Gotel Jamaica.

But in a statement issued late Tuesday, the OUR said it was unaware of any wrongdoing on the part of any officer or staff member.

The OUR said it stands by its record of integrity and transparency.

Despite this, OUR Spokesman David Geddes said the regulatory agency has decided to carry out an enquiry.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has also asked the Office of the Contractor-General to conduct a probe into the matter.
