Shernette Haughton- former Mayor of Lucea
The People's National Party, PNP, has delayed making public its decision regarding former Mayor of Lucea, Shernette Haughton. General Secretary, Paul Burke, said a statement would have been issued yesterday.
A PNP source Tuesday told RJR News that final checks were still being made. He said the intention is to issue the statement today.
Following Sunday's meeting of its National Executive Council, NEC, the Party said it would exhaust all avenues before making a decision on Ms. Haughton's status. There were calls at the meeting for the former Mayor to be given a fair hearing.
The Party is under pressure to drop Ms. Haughton from its list of candidates in the next Local Government election following allegations that government contracts were awarded to her family members and friends during her tenure as Mayor.
