Police Commissioner Carl Williams has confirmed a RJR News report that the High Command has ordered a review of police personnel assigned to protect public officials.
RJR News reported earlier on Monday that the High Command was also considering a reduction in the number of bodyguards assigned to several former politicians and public officials.
The High Command, in a statement later in the day, said the Force had embarked on a review of police close protection guidelines.
Commissioner Williams also confirmed our report that a risk assessment of all public officials with assigned close protection officers is also to be conducted. That review is expected to be completed next month.
Commissioner Williams said, after the review, any amendment to the guidelines or adjustments to remove protection officers will be communicated to the affected individuals.
He said, until then there will be no withdrawal of the services and assignment of police close protection officers at this time.
However, RJR sources have insisted that the reassignment of some officers is already underway.
