ACP Ealan Powell

The Police High Command is expecting increased confrontations between the police and criminals in the wake of the revised crime plan.

Several alleged gunmen have been fatally shot within the last two weeks in reported shootouts with the police.

More than 70 fatal shootings have been recorded since January.

Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell, head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, spoke with RJR News that already the police are seeing an increase in confrontations with criminals

"Gunmen who are bent on creating mayhem and are attacking the police. Unfortunately, in some of those instances, the gunmen have been killed. But it's just a reminder, please don't take on the police, the police are trained and will react whenever they are taken on," he warned.

He added that with the increase in clashes, more illegal guns are also being seized.
