Police probing massive theft at car mart on Hagley Park Road

By Clinton McGregor

The police have launched a search for members of an organised criminal network who invaded a car mart along Hagley Park Road in St. Andrew on Monday night, removing several motor vehicles valued at millions of dollars.

The police have since recovered most of the stolen vehicles.

Radio Jamaica News was informed that eight vehicles valued at nearly $20 million were stolen from the Minute Car Rental, located at 75 Hagley Park Road.

Investigators reported that about 8:30 p.m., several men broke into the offices of the company and stolen $60,000 in cash; three laptops and three cellular phones, two desk top monitors and keys for several vehicles parked on the property.

The men then stole eight vehicles, including two Toyota Voxys, one Honda Stepwagon, a Nissan Serena, a Honda Accord, a Toyota Vitz, a Honda Grace and Kia Sportage.

Investigators say the estimated value of the vehicles was more than $18 million.

The operators uncovered the massive theft Tuesday morning and contacted the police.

Following a major search, seven of the stolen vehicles were recovered using a tracking system.

Two of the vehicles were recovered in Portmore.

The others were recovered in Harbour View, Mountain View Avenue and Olympic Way.

The Honda Accord has not been recovered.
