The Police High Command says 12 firearms and 108 rounds of ammunition were seized on Friday in coordinated operations across the island.
The seizures took place in Kingston, St. Catherine and St. James. Nine persons are in custody.
Among the seizures was a nine millimetre pistol with eight rounds, taken from a vehicle that was used to commit a murder in Bull Bay, St. Andrew.
About 6:40pm on Friday, the police say they intercepted the vehicle in Yallahs, St. Thomas. However, the gunmen escaped.
Police Commissioner, Dr. Carl Williams, says the seizure of 12 firearms in one day demonstrates the resolve of the Force to remove guns from the hands of criminals.
Williams also commended the teams for conducting the operations without any weapon being fired.
