Professor Norman Girvan, one of the Caribbean's prominent academics, has died. He was 72.
Girvan, who earlier this year suffered a serious fall while in Dominica, died in Cuba on Wednesday.
Norman Girvan was a strong supporter of regional integration, even beyond the English speaking Caribbean and became the second Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States, which incorporated all those countries in the Hemisphere "washed by the Caribbean Sea."
He was Professor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies (UWI).
