Road Traffic Bill to be fast-tracked

Three months after debate on the Road Traffic Bill was halted in the Senate, the Government has signalled that passage of the legislation will be fast-tracked.

Transport Minister Mike Henry, gave this signal Wednesday during the sitting of Parliament's Standing Finance Committee.

Debate on the bill was suspended in January to facilitate additional amendments.

It will replace the Road Traffic Act with provisions in keeping with international best practices.

The National Road Safety Council says the legislation will assist in tackling road fatalities.
