Section of Manchester Infirmary abandoned for safety concerns

A section of the Manchester Infirmary has been abandoned because it is deemed unsafe.

The building, which is over 100 years old, is no longer fit for persons to live in. According to the matron, Vivienne Grant, its occupants have been removed to a section of the administrative building, which was refurbished by JAMALCO. However the space is inadequate.

The Infirmary was built to house 60 residents but now houses 88.

A new building has been promised for some time now, but is yet to be constructed.

Matron Grant says the design for the new building has been approved and construction is now urgent.
