Several Trelawny schools affected by Wakefield protests

At least five schools in Trelawny have been negatively affected as residents of Wakefield have mounted road blocks for a second day.

The residents say they are frustrated with the poor road conditions which they have been experiencing for several years now.

They have blocked the Dumphries to Wakefield and sections of Bounty Hall main road.

Most schools in the surrounding area are seeing fewer than 50 per cent turn out while some have been forced to close their doors.

The affected schools are Muschett High, William Knibb High, and Holland High schools as well as Granville and Wakefield Primary schools.

Ivanhoe Gordon, Principal of Granville Primary, said his school has been tremendously affected.

"Yesterday we were down about 50 per cent, today we are lower because quite a number of our students come from that catchment area and (because of) the impact across, some persons would have withhold (sic) their children out of security concerns, not knowing what could happen later on," he explained.
