Shortwood principal denies wrongdoing in crash that killed woman

Dr. Christopher Clarke, Principal of Shortwood Teacher's College, on Tuesday denied allegations by prosecutors that he was driving in a reckless manner when he was involved in a crash which claimed the life of a pillion rider three years ago.
   
Yvonne Brown died on March 16, 2014 after the vehicle driven by Dr. Clarke hit a motorcycle along the Old Harbour main road in St. Catherine.

Prosecutors said Dr. Clarke was overtaking traffic when he slammed into the motorcycle on which Ms Brown was a pillion.
   
Dr. Clarke is on trial for causing death by dangerous driving.
   
The prosecution closed its case Tuesday after calling five witnesses.
   
In his defence, Dr. Clarke denied he was driving in a reckless fashion, adding that visibility was poor on the night the incident occurred as the road was dark.
   
He testified that the motorcycle did not have any lights.
                                           
Elaine Foster Allen, former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Howard Isaacs, President of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) gave character evidence on behalf of Dr. Clarke on Tuesday.
   
Closing arguments begin on Wednesday before the seven-member jury.
