Sections of the Smithfield main road in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland are blocked.
The road has been blocked since 5:30 Tuesday morning by residents and taxi operators from Smithfield, Hatfield and Wharf Road who are upset about the state of the road.
Some of the residents who had been working on the road are also claiming that they have not been paid for three months.
The road is being rehabilitated by a contractor with the National Works Agency (NWA).
Work was halted to allow the National Water Commission (NWC) to fix pipes along the road.
Motorists in the area are unable to leave the community due to the road block.
