St. Andrew MPs call for government to address water crisis

Mark Golding, MP for St. Andrew Southern

Members of Parliament for four constituencies in St. Andrew are calling for the Government to address the water crisis affecting several communities.

MP for St. Andrew East Central Dr. Peter Phillips, MP for St. Andrew Western Anthony Hylton, St. Andrew South Western MP Dr. Angela Brown Burke and St. Andrew Southern MP Mark Golding say the water shortage is affecting households, businesses, schools and other institutions in their constituencies.

In a joint statement, they said at least 32 communities in the four constituencies are without water due to production and distribution problems between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

"One area may be without water today and then I make an intervention, the NWC responds, they get some supply...and then some areas have no water at all, and this has been going on for weeks and weeks and it's just devastating to the residents and their standard of living," Mr. Golding lamented in an interview with RJR News.

The MPs say water supply systems have been affected by what they described as the poor implementation of the road improvement projects on Constant Spring Road, Hagley Park Road and the Mandela Highway.
