Commanding Officer for the St. James police division Superintendent Eron Samuels says the police will be using technology to improve crime fighting in the parish.

St. James has recorded 41 murders, up to April 13.

This is five less than the 46 recorded during the corresponding period last year.

Superintendent Samuels says it is important that creative ways be found to effectively respond to criminal activities in the parish.

"Crime is the biggest issue. That's our number one ticket item in St. James and we will ensure that we keep at it. We'll go after the guns, the gunmen and the gangs. These continue to reduce the amount of growth that we can have in St. James," he lamented.

"If you realise, we are always going after the wanted persons here in St. James. We try our best to have a good success rate at getting them. Either we catch them or we run them away, but at the end of the day we want to ensure that we create a safer society, safer communities and safer place to do business, raise families and to just enjoy Jamaica," said the commanding officer.

He was speaking on Monday at the launch of a school drone programme at Cornwall College.
