Three people were wounded in a drive-by shooting at Burnt Shop Square in Lawrence Tavern, St. Andrew on Monday morning.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, acting head of the Area 5 Police, says the St. Andrew North police are probing the incident which happened around 8 a.m.

The men were rushed to hospital.

SSP Phillips confirmed the incident during a press conference at the St. Catherine North Police division headquarters on Monday, indicating that the police had not yet determined a motive for the shooting.

He said the police continue to monitor the Lawrence Tavern area.

The Area 5 Police have seen a reduction in serious crimes since the start of the year, he pointed out.

"The divisions across area five, all divisions, are reporting reduction in major crimes, and we want to continue that trend. We're going to be very aggressive with it. The commissioner would have set a particular target for us, and we want to ensure that we do everything to achieve those objectives," he said.

Area 5 Headquarters includes St. Andrew North, St. Catherine South, St. Catherine North and St. Thomas.

SSP Phillips said the St. Catherine North and South divisions are also working together to maintain stability as they monitor the flare up in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
