US Govt cancelled the visas of James Robertson and his wife Charlene

The United States Government has revoked the visitors' visa of Minister of Energy and Mining James Robertson.

The visa issued to his wife Charlene has also been withdrawn.

In a statement issued Monday evening Mr. Robertson said the visas were cancelled last Friday.

Mr. Robertson said while no details have been provided on to the basis for the cancellations, he and his wife are of the view that it could have resulted from uncorroborated statements forwarded to various departments of the U.S. government.

He claimed it was in connection to a failed application for political asylum.

The Minister said the allegations made in those statements have been, and remain, wholly rejected.

Mr. Robertson and his wife have since dispatched their U.S based attorney to Washington DC. to seek audience with the relevant officials in an effort to ascertain the basis for the cancellations.

He said all appropriate channels will be utilised and expressed confidence that once given the opportunity and due process, the matter will be resolved.
