Violence flares again in Flankers, St. James

A policeman is in hospital with gunshot wounds while several houses and cars were fire-bombed in volatile Flankers St. James between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

And three persons were shot, two fatally, outside an exotic nightclub in Cornwall Courts also in St. James on Wednesday night.

The drama began unfolding in the wee hours of Thursday morning when armed thugs fire-bombed two houses and a car.

The men also opened fire on another house, a shop and a motorcar.

No one was injured during the attacks.

However a police team which went into the area shortly after the incidents, reportedly came under heavy gunfire during which a constable attached to the Mobile Reserve in Kingston was shot and injured.

The police returned the fire, but it has still not been ascertained whether any of the gunmen had been injured.

The police are keeping a close eye on the community which began flaring up again a few days ago when two men were shot and injured.

Meanwhile, those killed at the night club are the operator himself 22-year-old  Austin Christie of Green Pond and 22-year-old Wayne Hill, a United States citizen while a 43-year-old man is injured.

It is understood that about 8 o'clock Wednesday night the men were standing outside the club when a Toyota Corolla motorcar with two men aboard drove up.

The men opened fire on Christie and patrons before fleeing.

Christie and the 43-year-old man were taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead and the man admitted in serious condition.

It was not until about 7:00 Thursday morning that the police found Hill's body a few metes from the club.

Hill would have celebrated his 22nd birthday Thursday.

The police have not yet established a motive for that attack.
