Wanted man killed in St. James linked to Simone Collymore murder, police say

Investigators believe the man shot dead during a police operation at the Mango Walk Country Club in Montego Bay, St. James on Monday was linked to the murder of Simone Collymore and her driver, Winston Walters, who were fatally shot in January 2018.

Collymore's husband, Omar Collymore, and four others are now before the courts in relation to the murders.

The police say the deceased, Damian Mitchell, was also connected to the murder of Albert Joseph, the security guard killed in Stony Hill Square, St. Andrew, in December.

Investigators say Mitchell was also a member of the Unruly gang based in Brook Valley in St. Andrew.

A firearm and 16 cartridges were seized during Monday's police operation in St. James.

Three other men were also taken into custody.

The police say one of the detainees is a person of interest in a case of shooting on Constant Spring Road in St. Andrew.

Two women of Kingston 19 addresses were among those detained.

About 6:30 Monday evening, the police entered one of the town houses at the Mango Walk Country Club.

It is alleged that a man, who was found in a bathroom, pointed a firearm at members of the police team.

He was shot and later pronounced dead at hospital.
