West Kingston Compensation Committee submits report

Cabinet has received the report of the West Kingston Compensation Committee.

This was confirmed Monday night by the Ministry of Justice.

Carol Palmer, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, told RJR News that she expects that the public will shortly learn details of the recommendations.

The three member committee spent several months reviewing hundreds of claims arising from the 2010 West Kingston security operation aimed at capturing the fugitive Christopher “Dudus” Coke, and the Commission of Inquiry that followed.

The committee was chaired by Justice Seymour Panton, retired President of the Court of Appeal, the other members being the Rev Rennard White and Rev Herro Blair Jr.

The committee looked into the issue of compensation for the estate of persons who were killed during the May 2010 operation.

It also determined the amount of money to be paid to those who were detained or suffered loss and damage to property.
