Woman arrested for attempting to defraud Accountant General's Department

A 54 year old St. Andrew woman has been charged with allegedly trying to defraud the Accountant General's Department.

Investigators from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch (C-TOC) arrested and charged Janet Jarrett, of Hillside Crescent in Kingston on Wednesday, with forgery, uttering forged documents and obtaining money by means of false pretence.

It is reported that on January 21, Miss Jarrett went to the Accountant General's Department to update the banking information of her mother to collect her pension.

She presented an identification card, which aroused the suspicion of the representative.

The police were alerted and an investigation carried out which revealed that Miss Jarrett's mother died in 2016.

She was later arrested and charged.

Miss Jarrett is scheduled to appear in the St. Andrew Parish Court on July 30.
