Work underway to reconnect road from Seaforth to Cedar Valley in St. Thomas

Work is underway to reconnect the main road between Seaforth and Cedar Valley in St. Thomas, following a breakaway several years ago.

The original structure was washed away about 12 years ago, when the parish was severely affected by heavy rains.

A detour route through the Serge Island property has been in use since the bridge collapsed.

Stephen Shaw, Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), said the project, which is valued at $22.8 million is being financed through the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation’s Recurrent Budget for 2016/2017.

He said the work, which commenced late last year, includes the construction of a steel reinforced concrete box culvert.
