Afro-Guyanese nationals facing discrimination says IDPADA

A representative of the International Decade for People of African Descent Assembly Guyana has told an international conference that Afro-Guyanese nationals are facing discrimination and marginalization in the country.

The statement was made yesterday by attorney, Nigel Hughes, to the Third Session of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent taking place in Guyana.

Mr Hughes says African Guyanese are daily victims of a number of atrocities in the country, adding that the 2001 Durban declaration and the United Nations declaration 2013, which call for the inclusion of history of African descents to be included in the school curricula, have fallen on deaf ears.

He says the Irfaan Ali government is also seeking to decimate his organisation by defunding it without merit or justification .
