Barbados Government to increase tax on cell phone use

The Barbados Government is going ahead with its plan to increase the tax on cell phone use.

Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler has proposed a 4.5 per cent rise in the Value Added Tax on cell phone service, to take effect on January 1, 2016. This will raise the tax from 17.5 per cent to 22 per cent.

Mr. Sinckler, who made the proposal to Parliament at the end of Wednesday night’s sitting, admitted it would result in higher bills.
