Voice of Bermuda Athletics Association president Donna Raynor

President of the Bermuda Athletics Association (BAA) Donna Raynor says she is still hoping to have the British Overseas Territory host the 2020 Carifta Championship by summer the latest. The 49th staging of the championship was slated for April 10 to 13 in Hamilton but due to the spread of the coronavirus across the region, the event was postponed.

Raynor added that she is in regular contact with all Caribbean track and field associations as it relates to the championship. “We are hoping that we can get Carifta done before the end of 2020. If we can do it by the end of August that would be great,” she said.

Raynor says most elements are in place for the championship whenever it’s be held. She says the only element missing is workshops for officials.

“We have pretty much everything that we need. We had one more weekend of training for our officials. They had one week and had a second week which got postponed,” said Raynor. Jamaica has finished at the top of the medal table at the Carifta Games every year since 1985.
