Bolt and Fraser-Pryce cop Sportsman and Sportswoman titles

Voices of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Usain Bolt

Sprinters Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce were named 2015 RJR Sports Foundation National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year in a glitzy ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston on Friday night.

It was the third Sportswoman of the Year award for Fraser-Pryce who in 2015 won the 100  metre world title for the third time.

The achievement also earned Fraser-Pryce the Sagicor Iconic Award, which comes with a $200, 000 cash prize for a charitable initiative.

“And I could name all the women who did tremendously well and I definitely believe that 2015 was the year of great women and I believe 2016 will be the same so to all the nominees congratulations. If I could have had all of you stand here with me tonight as winners then that would be a plus,” said Fraser-Pryce.

Bolt who captured the sprint double and anchored the 4 x 100m relay team to victory in Beijing, was winning the award for the sixth time and promised his fans less anxiety in 2016 than what resulted in 2015.

“It was probably one of my roughest seasons and I want to apologise to all my fans for stressing you out this season. I want to thank my fans who supported me because I really needed it,” said Bolt.

Odane Richards and Danielle Williams were the respective runners-up.

Novlene Williams-Mills was the Chairman's awardee; former Netball Jamaica President Marva Bernard received the Lifetime Achievement Award while Jamaica's victorious women's 4 x 400m relay team at the World Championships, won the People's Choice Performance Award.
