Coach Glen Mills rates Bolt's 2015 100 metre World Championship highly

By Kayon Raynor, from Beijing, China

Glen Mills, who has guided Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt to six Olympic Gold medals and nine world titles - the latest coming in Sunday's 100m - believes this latest medal was the "toughest" the sprinter has pulled off.

This after Bolt shrugged off early season struggles for form to post 9.79 seconds to beat American Justin Gatlin, 9.80, to win his 3rd 100m World title and ninth gold overall.

"I think this is toughest victory he's had," Mills said.  "The most challenging in that for the past two years he's had significant challenges in his preparation plagued by intermittent injuries and unfitness and (being) unable to actually complete, it was a very trying time and it took a lot of skill and work and determination for him to get what he was able to achieve by defending his championship," Mills told RJR Sports Monday night (August 24, 2015) inside the iconic Bird's Nest Stadium.

Revealing that a decision was taken to focus on getting Bolt sharp for the 100 metres has taken away from the 200 metres preparation. Mills who has been coaching the 29 year-old Bolt says the half lap will he assessed round by round starting on Tuesday.

"I know he was a bit sore coming out of the 100 metres which is understandable because the things he's missing is the kind of competitive edge that allows you to go maximum speed," Mills said.

"So we're going to see. Tomorrow will give us an indication of just how much he has recovered," added the veteran coach.

By virtue of taking his third 100m crown on Sunday, Bolt now sits atop all male competitors, in terms of medals won with nine  gold and   two silver.
