Cricket West Indies to focus on new generation of players

Voices of Cricket West Indies President Dave Cameron and former captain Darren Sammy

A new generation of West Indies cricketers is the focus going forward by the regional board, as President Dave Cameroon hinted at the continued freeze out of senior players from the Caribbean side.

Speaking on ‘Line and Length recently, Cameron while giving up on an automatic qualification spot to the 2019 ICC World Cup, hinted at a changing of the guard going forward.

“We’ve said to management, specifically  the cricket side, is that we now need to look at the players that are going to take us through and win the World Cup so you make see changes in our 50-over team because we now have to be planning about winning the World Cup in two years,” said Cameron.

And in light of Cameron's comments, two time winning T20 World Cup captain Darren Sammy, in a sharp critique of the state of West Indies cricket, told The Tuffers and Vaughan Show in England that he could not envision an immediate turn-around for the West Indies, especially since none of the leading players was ever likely to represent the region again because of Cricket West Indies’ policies.

“I’m scared that we may be relegated to playing against Ireland and Scotland which would be very very sad if something doesn;’t change. The guy (Cameron) has just been elected for another term; I can’t see that happening,” lamented Sammy.
