Five Jamaicans named in Windies World Cup squad

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Renardo Brown

Five Jamaicans have been named to the West Indies preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC  World Cup but there is no place for Marlon Samuels. Hard hitters Chris Gayle and Andre runs, two of the top five run scorers in the current Indian Premier League (IPL), will make the trip with the Caribbean side to England and Wales for the 50 over World Cup.

They are joined by fellow Jamaicans Fabian Allen, Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell who only made a return to the Windies set-up in the recent series against England as a replacement for the then injured Kemar Roach.

The squad which will be led by Jason Holder, will also include Ashley Nurse, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Evin Lewis, Kemar Roach, Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope, Shannon Gabriel and Shimron Hetmyer.

The final 15-member squad will be sumbitted after next month's tri-nation series which also involves Ireland and Bangladesh, meaning some players selected for the tri-series could still stake a claim for inclusion in the final squad.
