Former Windies test pacer doubtful revision of selection criterion will entice top players

Voice of former Jamaica and West Indies pacer Darren Powell

Former Jamaica and West Indies fast bowler Darren Powell doesn't believe the West Indies Cricket Board's (WICB) rethink of the current ODI selection policy will bring back the top stars of the region.

This comes after the WICB chairman of selectors Courtney Browne said the board plans revisit the eligibility criterion which rules out most of the top players because they haven't played in the regional tournament.

However, speaking on Hitz 92 FM's Sports Grill on Thursday, Powell says the board and the players need to sort out their issues to see their return.

“I believe what is happening around West Indies cricket now is far-reaching. The board and the players along with their union should meet with the selectors in one room and work out all the differences. Once you can do that then you can put polices in place that can help the cricket to grow,” said Powell.

Powell was also heavily critical of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) which he accused of lacking professionalism.
