Gaynstead take all island netball double

Gaynstead high took the all island double winning both the senior and junior sections of the ISSA Netball Competition on Friday at the Leila Robinson Courts, defeating rural area champions Denbigh High. Gaynstead first defeated Denbigh 35-26 in the senior section behind 23 goals from 26 attempts from Britney Logan and 12 goals from 13 attempts from Kelsey Jonas.

The game was close at the end of the first quarter with Gaynstead leading 8-7. They stretched that lead to 7 goals, 18-11 at the end of the second and had a 27-18 advantage heading into the final quarter. They then capped off the 9 goal win in the fourth quarter. Denae Thomas had 18 from 23 for Denbigh.

Meanwhile, in the junior section they had a 24-21 win over the same opponents Denbigh. The Urban Area champions were down 5-6 at the end of the first quarter but surged to a 15-9 lead at half-time. It was 18-16 at the end of the third quarter a lead Gaynstead held to close out the contest 24 - 21. Goal shooter Gabrielle Phillips converted 14 from 21 attempts while goal attack Dejanay McIntosh shot 10 from 14.
