Intercol president continues to defend his stewardship

President of the Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association of Jamaica Dalton Myers has further declare that his presidency of the body is on firm constitutional ground, even as more questions are raised.

The questions relate to the current employment status of Myers, who now lectures at the University of West Indies on a part-time basis and whether he has the right to continue leading the organization based the constitution. But in a press release issued on Thursday, Myers reaffirmed that his position was not in question.

"The constitution of the organization does not in any way restrict a member who may not be employed to an affiliate to remain on the executive once he/she is duly elected, neither does it dictates any type of employment for any member of the executive as per article 7.

Article 7 says for executive members to be elected they must hold employment with one of the members institutions, which number at 22.

Myers had indicated same in an exclusive interview with RJR Sports on Monday before travelling to the Bamahas on Tuesday morning for the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Myers further stated in the release that:"The Annual General Meeting (agm) is set for September 14, 2017 and that has been communicated to all member institutions and the results of that process will be public knowledge where applicable".

In the meantime, Myers added that he: "Remains the president until then and will continue working with all member institutions for the development of sports in Jamaica".

The press release pointing to the rule/by-law of the constitution, clearly shows that he can only be removed  via elections, constitutionally due in 2019; if he steps down or by any other means under the said constitution.
