Jamaica's men's hockey team qualify for CAC Games

Spurred by a hattrick from Kemar Mitchell, Jamaica's mens hockey team qualified for next year's CAC Games in Colombia with a 7-0 hammering of Guatemala in their qualifying match which was completed on Friday morning at the Mona Hockey Field.

The teams were 0-0 all on Thursday when rain forced a premature end to the game. Mitchell scored in the 24th, 40th and 53rd minutes as the Jamaicans kept their 100 percent win record intact, making it three from three.

Captain Kishawn Whyte playing in his 50th game for Jamaica, was also on the scoresheet in the 35th minute. With the win, the Jamaicans are now joint leaders of the qualifying group with 9 points the same as Guyana.

The two teams will meet on Saturday to decide group honours before meeting again on Sunday in the final. The two finalists qualify automatically to next year’s CAC Games.
