New CONCACAF president elected

The first non-Caribbean President of CONCACAF to be elected, was ushered in office on Thursday in Mexico City.

Canadian Victor Montagliani won the 2-man leadership race, beating Bermuda Football Association President Larry Mussenden 25-16.

Two of the last three CONCACAF Presidents were from the Caribbean.

The exception was Alfredo Hawitt of Honduras who was appointed following the arrest of Caymanian Jeffrey Webb who had come into power following the ouster of Trinidadian Austin ‘Jack’ Warner on corruption charges.

The CONCACAF elections have been held on the eve of the FIFA Congress starting on Friday in the Mexican capital.
