Novak Djokovic loses to Stanislas Wawrinka

Stanislas Wawrinka dumped three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic out of the Australian Open after a thrilling five-set victory on Tuesday in their quarterfinal match.

The Swiss eighth seed beat Djokovic 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7 in a four-hour encounter  to set up a semi-final with Czech seventh seed Tomas Berdych.

Seventh seed Tomas Berdych overcame 3rd seeded Spaniard David Ferrer in four sets 6-1, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to reach his first Australian Open semi-final.

Meanwhile on the women's side the supremely confident teenager Eugenie Bouchard reinforced her status as one of the game's most exciting prospects by upsetting 14th seed Ana Ivanovic  5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

World number four Li Na swept aside Italian Flavia Pennetta in a straight-sets demolition 6-2, 6-2 to move into the semi-finals.
