Poor state of G.C. Foster track leads to cancellation of meet

Following the cancellation of this year's Central Hurdles and Relays due to the poor state of the track at G.C. Foster College, another development meet is in danger of being cancelled because of the same reason.

Twenty-four hours later, the authorities at G.C. Foster College revealed that they are now searching for an alternative venue to stage their annual meet, the G.C. Foster Classics which is set for March 1.

A final decision on the 2014 status of the classics will be made later this week.

Head coach Maurice Wilson who also spearheads the professional club sprint tech, says both group of athletes will be affected.

“It is extremely difficult especially for the students that are at the college in that the time that they will have to spend travelling to go for example to Stadium East, they could use that time to do some academic work. For the persons that are involved in the club, it is similar because most of them are in college and the travelling cost and time factor spent on the road is going to definitely affect performance overall.

“We are looking at the possibility of having it elsewhere or we may have to cancel so really those are the two options. Having it on the present track is not an option at this time,” he said.

The track at G.C. Foster was installed in 1999.
