Rust takes two titles at Age Group Badminton Challenge

Following up on her quadruple in week one of the Nabuco Age Group Badminton Challenge, Rihanna Rust was one of three double winners in week two held at the Constant Spring Badminton Hall. Thirteen year old Rust took the Under-17 girls singles title after beating former Under-19 champion Tahlellah Townsend in three games 21-19, 8-21, 21-17.

Rust then teamed up with Townsend to win the Under-17 girls’ doubles with victory over Jade Ranger and Breanna Webster of Rangers Badminton Academy 21-5, 21-5. Rust, however, couldn't claim a triple as she and Matthew Gibbs went down to Townsend and Aundre Brown in an entertaining Under-17 mixed doubles final 22-20, 21-11.

Gibbs was the other double winner as he won the Under-17 boys singles over Aundre Brown and partnered Tijae Hinds to claim the boys’ doubles 21-13, 21-11 over Brown and Chrissano Hanna-Miller.

The senior match of the night saw men's singles number one seed Matthew Lee taking on former national champion and number two seed Dennis Coke. The match swung from end to end and when the dust cleared, Coke prevailed in three games 21-8, 14-21, 21-12.

The ladies singles final saw number one seed Tahlia Richardson beating former national champion and number two seed Katherine Wynter 21-18, 24-22.
