STETHS pair among the stars at Western Champs

St. Elizabeth Technical were on their way to defending both the boys and girls titles as their athletes led by class one sprinter Nigel Ellis and Junelle Bromfield dominated proceedings on Saturday’s final day of the Western Athletics Championships at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Ellis gave the clearest indication yet that he willbe the man to beat at this year's ISSA Boys and Girls Championships with scintillating class one boys sprint double.

He  took the 100m in a record 10.20seconds and  then returned to win the 200 meters  in another personal best of 20.40 seconds.

Teammate and Commonwealth Youth Games double gold medalist Junelle Bromfield also starred capturing the class one girls 800 metres in 2 minutes, 07.37 seconds and the 400meters in a personal best 52.43 seconds.

She added these titles to her 1500metres crown from Tuesday eliminations.

Another STETHS athlete and Commonwealth Youth Games medalist  JauvaneyJames who  the 400m hurdles and the  800m double  with times of 52.68 and 1:53.27 respectively, was among the other double winners.

Petersfield’s Antonio Watson was also impressive taking the class three 800 metres before returning to win the 400metres in a record 50.82 seconds.

Six records were broken up to late afternoon on Saturday’s final day.

Defending champions STETHS were leading with 300.50 points on the boys’ side ahead of Munro College 215 .50 and Petersfield 176 points.

Champions STETHS were also leading the girls’ section with 258 points ahead of Rusea’s 236 and Petersfield 130 points.
