Principal of St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) Kieth Wellington has broken his silence on the switch of allegiance matter involving teenage sprint sensation Sachin Dennis who is a student athlete of the Santa Cruz-based school.
Having initially declined to speak with RJR Sports on the record, noting he could not comment on the private life of his students, Wellington on Wednesday denied that any move was afoot to have Dennis switch allegiance, adding that the athlete will represent Jamaica if and when that time comes up in the future.
Meanwhile, Claudette Anderson, mother of the talented young sprinter has revealed that a two-way custody battle has led to her being estranged from her youngest child. On Wednesday RJR Sports broke news that plans were afoot for Dennis to possibly run for the oil-rich Middle East country of Bahrain.
But that it is being done against the wishes and full knowledge of his mother. Speaking exclusively with RJR Sports, Anderson revealed that she has not seen Sachin, the youngest of her 4 children, for more than a year.
She says it was not only due to the secrecy surrounding the Bahrain issue, but also due to a near decade long custody battle with Sachin's father Dalfry.
She explained that although joint custody was granted in 2015 after a bitter battle, things have not gotten any better. Anderson says she feels he has been manipulated over the last two years with lucrative promises by his coach at STETHS Reynaldo Walcott and his father, with whom she had a very difficult relationship.
In the meantime, Anderson says she continues to maintain a presence in Sachin's life by attending the Boys and Girls Championships and school functions involving her son.
