STGC advance to ISSA FLOW KO competitions

One of the pre tournament favourites, St George’s College, made a narrow escape as they advanced to the ISSA FLOW knock out competitions following the last set of Manning Cup preliminary games on Tuesday.

St George’s needed to have won at Eltham to have any chance of topping Group ‘C’ and they delivered with a 4-0 win. They also needed Denham Town to beat Innswood at Chedwin Park, and Denham Town produced a 1-0 victory.

It left all three teams on 22 points but St George’s topped the table on goal difference to advance to the Walker and Super Cup knockouts.

Denham Town finished second to advance to round two of the Manning Cup as did Innswood as the second best third placed team.

Things were also tight in Group ‘F’ where Excelsior beat Norman Manley 3-0 to top the group with 24 points.

Excelsior will play St George’s in the first Walker Cup quarterfinal on Friday.

Vauxhall beat Ascot 3-0  nil to advance with 22 points while Jonathan Grant who stopped Spanish Town 2-0 to also advanced as the best third placed team.

Wolmer's secured their knockout spots from Group ‘E’ after crushing Kingston High 5-1.

St Jago made the knockout tournaments as the best second placed team.

Hydel topped Group ‘B’ after drowning Dunoon 11-1. They finished ahead of Haile Selassie who advanced to the Manning Cup second round despite losing 1-0 at Papine.

Champions Jamaica College closed out their group fixtures by hammering Tivoli 7-0.

The Walker Cup matches for Friday will see St George’s College taking on Excelsior and Kingston College versus St Jago. On Saturday, Jamaica College take on Charlie Smith and Hydel face Wolmer's.
