Three Jamaicans in Windies T20 World Cup squad

Captain Rovman Powell is among three Jamaicans included in the West Indies squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup to be staged in the Caribbean and the United States. The two other Jamaicans in the squad are Brandon King and the experienced Andre Russell.

Young fast bowling sensation Shamar Joseph, who has played only three T20s and is yet to make his international debut in the format, has also been included along with fellow Guyanese Shimron Hetmyer.

Hetmyer missed his flight to the 2022 T20 World Cup, but has since returned to the fold for the West Indies.

Alzarri Joseph has been named deputy to Powell, while former captains Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder all make the squad.

The rest of the squad is completed by Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shai Hope, Akeal Hossain, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd.

Barbadian all-rounder Kyle Mayers is the notable omission from the squad.

Lead selector Desmond Haynes said the selection panel will be using the May 25 deadline to name the reserves for the tournament.

2-time world champions West Indies are in Group C along with Papua New Guinea (PNG), Uganda, New Zealand and Afghanistan. They will begin their campaign on June 2 against Papua New Guinea in Guyana.
