Two Jamaican victories at Tom Jones Invitational

30 year old Jamaican sprinter Simone Facey ran her second fastest time ever to win the women's 100 metres at the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainsville, Florida on Friday.

Facey, a 2009 World Championship sprint relay gold medallist, clocked 11 seconds flat to turn back the experienced Murielle Ahoure of Ivory Coast who produced 11.06 and American Candayce McGrone 11.13 seconds.

Meanwhile, Yohan Blake's world leading 9.95 in the men's 100 metres has lasted less than a week after Femi Ogunode of Qatar sped to 9.91 also at the Tom Jones Invitational.

Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade ended third in 10.03 seconds, the same time as second placed Isiah Young of the United States.

Deuce Carter placed 2nd in the men's 110 metre hurdles clocking 13.54 seconds. H was edged out by Eddie Lovett of the US Virgin Islands 13.50.

And at the inaugural Bermuda Invitational Javon ‘Donkey Man’ Francis and Tiffany James recorded victories over 400 metres.

Francis won the men's event in 46.27 seconds, turning back American Calvin Smith who stopped the clock at 46.51.

James produced 53.56 to capture the women's race ahead of Mico University team-mate Dawna-Lee Loney 53.68.

Michael Frater and Oshane Bailey also had podium finishes in the 100 metres. The 33 year old Frater clocked 10.35 for second while Bailey was third in 10.40 seconds. Both were well beaten by American Mike Rodgers who sped to 10.14.

Jowayne Hibbert 1:51.12 and national champion Ricardo Cunningham with 1:51.56 were 2nd and 4th respectively in the men's 800 metres.
