WICB sets up taskforce to review abandonment of India tour

A taskforce comprising critical stakeholders will be set up to review the premature end of the West Indies cricket tour of India last week.

This was one of four important recommendations coming out of the West Indies Cricket Board's emergency meeting in Barbados on Tuesday.

The taskforce will meet with all parties, including WIPA and the players, before reporting its findings to the Board of Directors. Additionally, the board says it will request a meeting with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as well as schedule an urgent debriefing with the West Indies team management unit.

The WICB also stated in a release on Tuesday afternoon that it will assure Cricket South Africa that it will use its best endeavours to ensure a successful tour, as scheduled.

Meanwhile, according to Channel News Asia, an “informed source” from within the meeting confirmed that WICB President Dave Cameron faced a grilling from other executive members about his handling of the entire situation. More specifically, it was the view that he took a hands-off position when Dwayne Bravo, the captain of the one-day international team,  last week requested his intervention in the midst of a rift between the players on tour and Wavell Hinds, President of the West Indies Players Association.
