World Championship, the main reason Forbes is back

The appeal of representing Jamaica at a fourth World Championship was one of the main pull factors, which lured netballer Simone Forbes out of retirement to rejoin the Sunshine Girls.

Forbes represented Jamaica at the World Championship in 1999, 2003, and 2007, but missed the last edition in 2011, due to a three-month drug ban. She retired from the sport after an unsuccessful appeal and has stayed away despite coaxing from Netball Jamaica for the past three years to return.

Forbes told RJR Sports that the decision to return was carefully consideredwith her family, and in particular, her partner, Andrew.

“The minute I started processing – yes, I didn’t get to go to the last World Championship, maybe this is another chance to fulfill that dream of mine to go to another World Championship – he and I spoke about it for five days, and we said, let me give it a go… one year, give it all I have and see what happens.”

At age 33, Forbes has no intention of going beyond the 2015 World Champions in Australia.

“One year is sufficient! This team has very good players; young, vibrant, they are all rearing to go,” she declared.
