August Town tense following shooting

Fayval Williams, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew Eastern

August Town in St. Andrew is again tense following a shootout involving gunmen in the area Monday morning.

The shooting started about 8:35 at the corner of August Town Road and July Road.

A correctional officer from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre died after being shot in the incident.

He has been identified as 35 year old David Stewart.

The police and military are in the area.

Fayval Williams, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew Eastern, has indicated that she will be writing the Prime Minister requesting that a Zone of Special Operations be established in August Town.

"Given how much has happened in such a small space of time, I think really drastic actions are needed from here," the MP argued, adding that the current situation is too much for law-abiding residents of the community to bear.
