National Stadium being used as location to disburse CARE payments

Dr. Christopher Tufton

The National Stadium is now being used as a location for the disbursement of benefits under the Government's COVID-19 Allocation of Resources for Employees (CARE) programme.

This follows crowd control problems at financial institutions since payouts under the multi-billion dollar assistance programme commenced last week.

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton said following Cabinet discussions, the decision was made to allow remittance agency Western Union to use the National Stadium as that location would be better enable crowd management.

Dr. Tufton said a Health Ministry team will be stationed at the site to ensure social distancing rules are maintained.

He said teams will also be deployed to assist with crowd management at other payment locations across the country.

He was speaking at Tuesday's meeting of the COVID-19 Parliamentary Committee.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke has said 265,000 applicants have so far received compassionate grants under the CARE programme.

Payments under the Supporting Employees with the Transfer of Cash (SET Cash) component are slated to commence this week.

EOJ assistance

In a effort to assist recipients of the Government's CARE programme, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) will process temporary identification letters, free of cost, for electors whose Voter ID cards have been lost or stolen.

Effective Wednesday, electors can visit their EOJ Constituency Office or the Electoral Office of Jamaica's head office to request the letter.

Electors who registered up to September 2019 and have not yet collected their ID card can do so at the EOJ Constituency Office where they are registered.

This is the only service the EOJ is currently offering to the public.
