Return of Jamaicans in Cayman reportedly being discussed

The Caymanian authorities are reportedly in discussions with the Jamaican Government about the possible return of Jamaicans in that the territory to their homeland.

According to Cayman News Service, the Governor of Cayman, Martyn Roper, is continuing talks with the governments of Jamaica, India and the Philippines to help their nationals who want to leave, although the situation of  airlift remains challenging.

The governor has also urged foreigners who believe the employment situation will improve in Cayman soon and have opted not to take advantage of the air evacuations to re-consider if they have an opportunity to leave.

Mr. Roper said, when the economy re-opens and work opportunities emerge again, Caymanians who have lost their jobs will be first in line

Over the seven weeks since the airports closed, evacuation flights have continued to take foreigners home.

Nearly one thousand people have left the Cayman Islands.

It has been announced that the territory's borders will remain closed until September 1
