Two flights from the USA to bring residents home to Jamaica on Wednesday

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that two flights - one from Florida and the other from New York - are to arrive in Jamaica on Wednesday with residents who are returning from the United States as part of the controlled re-entry programme.

Foreign Affairs Minister Senator Kamina Johnson Smith outlined the plan on Monday during the Office of the Prime Minister's Covid-19 press conference.

These are persons who have been stuck overseas since restrictions were imposed on passenger flights last month.

For weeks they have been clamoring for the opportunity to return, but the government had maintained that provisions had to be in place for appropriate quarantine or isolation.

Senator Johnson Smith explained that those returning are vulnerable and hardship cases, and that arrangements are in place for their testing and other measures.
