BREAKING: J’can Odean Brown escapes maximum 2-year ban

By Kayon Raynor

National cricketer Odean Brown has received a 15 month ban from the sport for a whereabouts rule violation.

Chairman of the Independent Anti-doping Disciplinary Panel, former Director of Public Prosecutions Kent Pantry, who revealed the sanction Tuesday morning at the Jamaica Conference Centre, indicated that the ban will be back-dated to November 24, 2015.

This means the right arm leg-spinner, who was represented by attorney Patrick Foster, escaped the maximum two year ban for missing three drug tests within a 12 month period.

Foster had argued for the ban to be started earlier than November 24, 2015 when final submissions were made to the three member panel which also included Professor Archibald McDonald and former Jamaica and West Indies Cricketer Maurice Foster.

Brown, who has taken 255 first class wickets at an average of 23 runs, can resume his career on February 25, 2017.

Pantry told RJR Sports online "the written reasons for the decision will come shortly."

Under the updated WADA rules, athletes must file where they will be for at least one hour each day with their local anti-doping agency, to facilitate being drug tested.

The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission, JADCO, was represented by attorney Lackston Robinson.
