Johnathan Newnham wins men's title at Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship

Jonathan Newnham captured his first senior singles title at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships but Jamaica missed out on the prestigious Hoerman Cup at the Half Moon and Cinnamon Hill Courses in Montego Bay.

Newnham, a former Under15 champion, finished with a three over par score of 290, to win by four strokes ahead of Radhames Pena of the Dominican Republic .

Newnham who started the final round three shots ahead of Bahamian Devaughn Robinson, carded a 75, the worse of his four rounds but still held on for the victory.

However,  his team-mates Ian Facey, Owen Samuda, Captain Sean Morris and William Knibbs all struggled as Jamaica ended two shots behind the Dominican Republic for the Hoerman Cup.

Meanwhile, Gifford Wilmot and Mark Newnham also had a second place finish for the Ramon Baez Trophy after carding a final day score of 69 for a 2 over par 290, 13 shots behind the Dominican Republic.

Keith Stein and Radcliff Knibbs also finished runners up for the Francis Steele Perkins Cup after ending 3 under par, two shots behind the Trinidad and Tobago pair of Carlos Baines and Richard Camacho.
